Introducing Shellie Wilson

MEET SHELLIE WILSON

From my early years I have always been a social and outgoing person interested in other people and what makes them tick. I regularly found myself falling in to mentor territory with friends and family and as my life experiences grew realised how much I enjoyed helping people to feel better about themselves. Having such an empathetic persona people of any age appeared to find it easy to open up to me and ‘land on my lap’. Putting all this together I realised I could use the natural skills I have as a career and started to explore different avenues. I travelled for 10 years in both the Greek Islands and Egypt which introduced me to many different cultures and ways of living.

This enabled me to gather a vast experience and wealth of knowledge which have helped me have a deeper understand of how we work as individuals.

SHELLIE'S PHILOSOPHY

The principal factor to my counselling philosophy is my belief towards the quality of the relationship between therapist and client is absolutely necessary to effective therapies. When a client feels that a counsellor truly understands them without judgement, the healing potential is increased for the client. Although I hold myself with the upmost professionalism, I believe it’s just as important to show that I am also human and I too feel the pains and hurt of life but can prove counselling can help through my past experiences and reasons for becoming the trusted person to help those who need it the most. “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”

EXPERIENCE

Whilst in Greece I worked as a Public Relations and Family Liaison Officer helping families to make the most of their holidays supplying them with information and ideas relevant to their requests. I carried on this career when I moved to Egypt and quickly became a popular face in Sharm El Sheikh for guests, becoming a Family Liaison Officer covering over 15 hotels across the region. I was amazed how much I could learn about a person in such a short space of time and believe me holidays don’t always go to plan so being able to support, help and nurture them in an unfamiliar environment was extremely fulfilling.

On returning to the UK I continued my love for caring working with families suffering with Alzheimer’s & other forms of Dementia, Parkinson’s, Memory Loss and Bereavement. As a spiritual person I decided to study Reiki, Reflexology and Indian Massage to assist and broaden my knowledge eventually leading to the study and qualification of Counselling which is ongoing.
